Rooney's February 2011 derby winner was one of 10 fine finishes put forward for an online poll to mark the league's 20th season, with gems from Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry and Matt Le Tissier as well as other iconic United goals from David Beckham and Eric Cantona also on the shortlist. Reacting to the poll result, Wayne said: "I grew up watching the Premier League so to be voted the scorer of the best goal in its history is a great feeling. There are so many good goals in that shortlist, goals that I watched in my living room as a kid: Alan Shearer's goal, Paulo Di Canio's, Tony Yeboah's, David Beckham's... to be competing with them and winning is a great honour for me and something I'm very proud of.
